Take a step back in time and discover one of the most fiery periods in Dutch and Northern European history: the Bronze Age. From 18 October 2024, the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden will present an exhibition that sparks the imagination and highlights the rich heritage of this crucial era. During the lecture in the Castlefest Academy, you will get a preview.

The Bronze Age (2000-800 BC) begins over four thousand years ago. The new metal bronze leads to major changes in the societies of Europe. It is the time when stone tools and weapons are replaced by bronze objects. Extensive networks of powerful elites, a circular economy and the first form of money emerge.

During Castlefest, convervator Luc Amkreutz will give us insights in this era. The precious objects found give us an intimate look into daily life 3,500 years ago. As well as mighty ritual swords and spectacular sacrifices that show the special and mysterious aspects of this time.

This lecture is a preview of the exhibition Bronstijd - vuur van verandering (Bronze Age - Fire of Change) is about a fascinating period in our history. The Bronze Age (2000-800 BC) began over four thousand years ago with the introduction of the new metal bronze, which led to significant changes in the societies of Europe. The exhibition brings together the most beautiful and extraordinary objects from the Netherlands and surrounding countries, with special loans from museums in the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, France, and Denmark.
