At the crossroads of Irish Celtic music and modern electro rhythms, Green Lads set sail. In their green costumes, with their catchy melodies and crackling steps, they create an energetic picture with irresistibly danceable sounds!
Green Lads is first and foremost a story of encounters, a project that has been enriched over the years by the talent of each of its passionate five artists : 2 fiddlers, 1 flutist, 1 guitarist/uilleann piper and 1 tap dancer, to make the music vibrate right down to the audience's feet: a unique show!
Their origin story
Green Lads was formed in 2018 by two guys dressed in green who played the violin in Irish sessions in the city of Rennes. Born from Antoine Rozé's desire to blend electronic compositions with traditional Irish themes, the duo released a self-titled debut EP in which they revisited the great classics of the repertoire with an electronic twist. This originality quickly led them to perform in both village squares and large stages in Brittany, such as the Festival de Cornouailles in July 2018.
In 2019, after a trip to Ireland for inspiration, Green Lads returned, this time as a trio consisting of two violinists and a flutist. The group then released their second EP, "Foam and Lads," in homage to their meeting on the stools of a pub in Rennes. Made up of covers of certain themes like the famous "Galway Girl," it also featured their first original compositions. Meanwhile, the group continued to develop their live performances and began exporting their music beyond the Breton territory.
Enriched sounds
In 2020, the project was enriched by a guitarist and a tap dancer, and the Lads decided, given these new sounds, to re-record and remaster their first two EPs. They thus released the album "Origins," which brought together the tracks from the two previous EPs. Highlighted by the very punchy "Korriganda," it traced the group's beginnings and their meeting in the Irish jam sessions of Rennes' bars.
The following year, in partnership with France Bleu Armorique and Breizh Izel, Green Lads unveiled the album "Celtitude." This one contained only original pieces composed by the group, including the highly electro-inspired track "Hypnosis." These were also the first concerts as a five-member band across France, and the public's enthusiasm did not wane.
2022 saw the birth of the EP "Winter Bloom," in which the artists reappropriated three titles from the traditional repertoire or from groups that inspire them, including "Toward the Sun" by the Anglo-Irish band Flook. Although three members decided to pursue other personal and professional projects during this period, the team welcomed new musicians. The new quintet formation of Green Lads then presented their show on stages that had seen the greatest names in Celtic music in France, such as the Festival des Filets Bleus in Concarneau.
New music
In 2023, the group released their third album, "Nebula," an addictive concentrate of positivity. An enchanting journey through the nebula of their inspirations, it takes us from verdant Ireland to the deserts of the Orient, from the raging waves of the world's seas to the misty shores of the imaginary land. With this new show composed of dreamlike and festive tableaux, Green Lads now export themselves internationally, with a notable performance at the Festival International du Monde Celte in Ortigueira, Spain.
Their fourth album is currently in the composition phase, with a release announced for 2026. Two singles have already been released, "Autumn Lights," a solar theme filled with beautiful energies, and "Friends and Fame," a modern pop song that invites us to cherish true friendships.
