Armed with a multitude of instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy, vielle, bagpipes, lute, shawm and various medieval drums the four musicians of Pøbel bring forth a wide range of medieval hymns and songs in instrumental re-arranged versions in an atmosphere similar to modern folk.
With a boyband vibe, a focus on the groove and a disregard for the more typically classical sheet music approach to the old sources they aim to bring the music to life as one would imagine they were experienced at the time. If granted the opportunity, they will also happily put on their dancing shoes as they are well-versed in both modern and medieval folk dances.
Their music as well as their presentations give a sense of atmosphere founded in a variety of historical facts and general medieval lifestyle observations.
Pøbel is not just four musicians playing old melodies; It’s enthusiasts wearing handsewn costumes, bringing authentic instruments to life and playing tunes dated back to the 11th century. They aim to convey the plight of the common man, the opulence of the nobility and the power of religious scholasticism by telling stories about their lives and deaths in the middle ages.
Pøbel is a complete and authentic, powerful medieval acoustic experience. With their captivating and danceable music from the middle ages they perform as if every concert was to be their last.
The orchestra consists of engaged, ambitious and professional folk musicians from both Denmark and Sweden. With their diverse knowledge of different genres they add to the music with their perspectives and aim to give the audience a full experience with their knowledge of the instruments and the music as the cornerstones.
