Itinera

Itinera is a Hungarian dark electro-folk duo weaving together ancient Hungarian folk songs and myths with electronica and pagan dark folk atmospheres. Inspired by the roots of Hungarian cultural heritage, their music transforms traditional melodies into dark, misty but powerful soundscapes.

Drawing from 20th-century Hungarian folk song collections - the era when scholars and composers began systematically preserving rural melodies - the duo (Anett Horváth and Ádám Tamás Nagy) reinterprets authentic motifs that once carried communal memory, grief, love and seasonal rites. Anett (vocals, kaval, shamanic drum, looper station) grew up in a small Hungarian village, where preserving traditions, folk dancing and folk singing played an important role, so the melodies and lyrics stuck in her ears, which she complements with her on melodies, rhythmic texts, mantra-like incantations and Ádám (vocals, tagelharpa, electronica) with pulsating modern electronica.

The myths and legends go back even further in time, all the way to the memories of the pre-Christian pagan Hungarians, whose surviving motifs, shamanism and paganism are also woven into their world. Their songs include drum awakening ceremonies as well as legends about the birth of shamans.

Itinera’s live performance is a meditative / energetic event with hypnotic beats, layered vocals so the band and audience can travel together to another world. Their music creates a transcendental shamanic fantasy world, evoking an ancient, tribal feeling, it invites the audience to a dance around an imaginary bonfire.

Visuality is an essential part of Itinera’s world. Many of their costumes are handmade by the duo themselves, inspired by shamanism, nature and their fantasy. Latin passages also appear in their music, adding an archaic, sacred resonance - a natural influence, as Ádám is a teacher of latin whose love for ancient languages helps adding more mystery to the journey.

Anett and Ádám play music together for almost 15 years. In 2022 they founded Itinera together, since that, they already played at several European festivals and shows. They are most proud of sharing the stage with Nytt Land in 2024 and The HU in 2025. Their first full-length album, “KÖR” (Circle), released in October 2025, is a 13-track journey through the cycles of the seasons and the stages of human life - an eternal circle where tradition, myth and modern sound meet.
