Lecture: Core Shamanism

Core shamanism and the shamanic markers in Nordic mythology

During this lecture, Kai Uwe Faust, known from Heilung and designer of our Limited Design of 2019, will tell us more about Core Shamanism.

Core Shamanism consists of the universal and common features of shamanism, together with journeys to other realms, a feature of shamanism. As originated, researched, and developed by Michael Harner, the principles of Core Shamanism are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective. Since the West lost its shamanic knowledge centuries ago due to religious oppression, Core Shamanism is particularly intended for Westerners to reacquire access to their rightful spiritual heritage.

Core Shamanism is a conservative, purist approach to shamanism.

"Shamanism is not 'New Age.' It is Stone Age and has been living ever since."

—Michael Harner

Old Norse religion, also known as Norse paganism, is a branch of Germanic religion which developed during the Proto-Norse period, when the North Germanic peoples separated into a distinct branch of the Germanic peoples.

It has distinctive shamanic features and markers. It was replaced by Christianity and forgotten.

Norse cosmology revolved around a world tree known as Yggdrasil, with various realms existing alongside that of humans. These include multiple parallel realms, several of which are controlled by a particular deity. Journeying in between these worlds is a central topic in Norse mythology.

This lecture will be in English.
