Mark Groenen

You’ve lost your girlfriend on a huge cruise ship, and the slippery tentacles of octopuses haunt your nightmares. As your search grows ever more desperate, reality melts further and further away. Where is Edine?

In an icy cold Eindhoven, Boris is brutally killed. When he opens his dead eyes, the Wendigo stands before him. A chance to, as an undead, take revenge on his murderers. But what is the monster’s motive?

Every night, Aidan dreams of the god Aisling. Aisling creates a beautiful world full of life. Every night, the dream ends with the end of Aisling’s world. The glandwyr leave nothing intact and spare no one. Now, these monsters come for Aidan’s world…

Three short summaries of the books by Mark Groenen. In his work, Mark explores the boundary between reality and the fantastical. His favorite genre? Magical realism – which he believes deserves a place among other fantastic books. As a diverse writer, he also explores other genres, such as (contemporary) fantasy, science fiction, and horror. His favorite authors and biggest influences are Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, and Haruki Murakami.

In March 2021, Mark was crowned “City Writer of Eindhoven” with his award-winning magical realist story “Columbia.” As an avid competition writer, Mark’s short stories can also be found in various collections, from EdgeZero to the Great Lowlands Writing Competition.

Mark (Eindhoven, 1989) worked for ten years in education as a history teacher and bilingual education coordinator. After a detour as a copywriter for B2B clients in the high-tech and construction industries, he returned to the classroom as a Dutch and history teacher.
