Starting from the moment Mascha Schoonakker (1990) discovered the fantasy genre, stories are haunting her, begging her to be written. In 2017 she debuted with ‘Merkteken van de Dood’, the first volume of her Zielverzamelaars duology. In this story she provided the personification of death with a fulltime job, two children and a handful of problems to make things interesting and the base for the story took shape.
In 2019 she also won the prestigious Harland Awards with her short story ‘Delfts grauw’, a story set in 17th century Delft, where all the colors have disappeared and manufactured colors are being sold for ridiculous prices. Therefore colors are only available for those who can afford it, making the gap between poor and rich more visual than ever.
The story is now transformed into a Graphic Novel 'Delfts Grauw'.
