Ronald van Assen (Delft, 1971) writes various genres, including fantasy and horror. He has released several titles and his short stories (whether or not related to writing competitions) are published in many collection bundle. In 2021 he won the third price in the SciFi/Fantasy writing competition Nevelkinderen. In November 2020 Godijn Publishing published his YA fantasy novel De tranen van de eenhoorn. It is an exciting and sometimes moving book in which everything is about classic fantasy themes such as the war between good and evil, sacrifice and friendship. It is situated in a world similar to ours, but also populated by unknown races. At the start of the story, the population of Invisia is about to be wiped out. Armies of hideous creatures march towards the capital Amarena. When the heir apparent is poisoned, chaos is complete. Only the tears of the unicorn offer a solution. Four people risk their lives to obtain the precious liquid. When all seems lost to the people of Amarena, help arrives from an unexpected source. De tranen van de eenhoorn is part of the Verhalen uit Invisia series. The sequel (De schaduw van Laela) will be released in February 2023. Described in the Biblion review as a mixture between The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, De tranen van de eenhoorn will be available at the Godijn Publishing booth during Castlefest. Ronald himself will be present on Friday.
