Ronald van Assen

Ronald van Assen (Delft, 1971) writes various genres, including fantasy, horror, thrillers and historical novels. He has many titles to his name and his short stories (whether or not related to writing competitions) are included in many collections.

In February 2023, his YA fantasy novel De schaduw van Laela was published.

De schaduw van Laela is the successor to De tranen van de eenhoorn and, together with several separate stories, forms the Verhalen uit Invisia. Stories that are far from finished. And that is evident because two new parts will be published at the end of 2025/beginning of 2026: De profetie van Wraithian and Kronieken van een koninkrijk. The stories take place on a hidden part of the earth that is populated by well-known races such as humans, elves, dwarves, goblins and trolls, but also by other types of creatures such as smorgels, arachnites and mockels. Everything revolves around classic fantasy themes such as the battle between good and evil, sacrifice and friendship. The books were described in the Biblion review as a mix between The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and are available at the Godijn Publishing stand during Castlefest. Ronald himself will be present on Saturday August 2nd.
