Deeply rooted in gothic, metal and folkrock music, Stimmgewalt created its own, unique brand of Dark A Cappella: Dark music without instruments. Instead, nothing but the human voice. They evoke unexplored sonic landscapes, with facets that can be newly discovered in every single song. In original songs and vocal covers, they explore the dark side of polyphonic singing and create an unexpected musical experience. From earth-shattering cacophonies to fragile melodies, from classical singing to feral growls, it’s all in the mix.
Stimmgewalt have been around for over a decade and in that time, they have made a name for themselves both on stages of pretty much all sizes – from tiny goth clubs to a solo show on the main stage of M’era Luna festival – as well as on recordings of other artists, where they provide backing vocals with the typical Stimmgewalt sound. On stage, they have performed with Lacrimosa and Lord of the Lost, Scardust, Van Canto and even Tarja Turunen, that one time.
Their first studio album, released in 2023, was produced by Chris Harms (Lord of the Lost) and is called Eskhatophonia (“Sounds from the End of All Things”). It weaves a tapestry of the end times and suggests a prophecy of what might follow. Twelve diverse songs transport the audience into an apocalyptic (audio)vision.
Soon we will see the completion of a new EP that includes two covers and two originals. On it, they show once again why calling this band a „choir“ simply does not encapsulate what they are. No conductor, every voice an irreplaceable piece of the puzzle, and the occasional scream that is telling you there is a reason why a new genre name was needed to describe them. Let Stimmgewalt take you with them on a path you might not have known existed.
