After nearly five hundred concerts across Norway and Europe, countless festival appearances, a victory in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix, and representing Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Gåte now presents a more intimate side of its music: Gåte Acoustic.
Known for their powerful live shows and their unique blend of Norwegian folk tradition with modern rock and electronic elements, Gåte has spent more than two decades exploring how ancient melodies can live in a contemporary soundscape. Their concerts have taken them across the Nordic countries and beyond, building a reputation for dramatic arrangements and a distinctive musical identity rooted in the traditions of Norwegian folk music.
At the heart of this tradition stands vocalist Gunnhild Sundli, who grew up immersed in a living folk music environment where songs were passed down through oral tradition. In Gåte, however, these traditional elements were reimagined. Together with guitarist Magnus Børmark—whose highly unconventional style helped shape the band’s sound—the music evolved into a powerful and often theatrical expression.
With Gåte Acoustic, the music returns to a quieter space.
“The foundation of the songs and Gåte’s arrangements turned out to translate surprisingly well into a more delicate soundscape. With Gunnhild’s voice as the central element, Magnus, Arn and Jon Even use only pump organ, guitar, fiddle and percussion—yet the music still carries a clear Gåte identity. It may not become entirely traditional, but the magic of the songs remains, often feeling even closer and more intimate than before.” The result is a concert experience where the dramatic spirit of Gåte meets the closeness of folk tradition.
Gåte consists of:
- Gunnhild Sundli – vocals
- Magnus Børmark – guitar
- Arn Andersson – Hardanger fiddle
