Instrument Try-out Sessions

by Stichting Draailier en Doedelzak

Have you always been curious about bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, nyckelharpa or diatonic accordion playing and how these instruments work? Then come and visit us at the Instrument Try-out Sessions at Castlefest.

Under the guidance of experienced musicians and the Dutch hurdy-gurdy & bagpipe foundation (Stichting Draailier en Doedelzak) you can try these instruments. No previous knowledge is required, we only ask you to bring a bit of enthusiasm and courage. We will bring the instruments.

For the record: We won't be playing the Scottish or Irish pipes, but the gurdies and pipes which are traditionally played in France, Belgium or in the Netherlands. Maybe you know them from paintings of Jeroen Bosch or Pieter Breughel?

Try-out sessions and acoustic concerts

You can drop in for a try-out session throughout the day. In addition, Stichting Draailier & Doedelzak will also organise some acoustic concerts with bands who might surprise you. You find all performances below.
