The Green Fairy shall appear this year, with her long forbidden potion. Feel the magic, while you observe how she prepares this exciting, mesmerising green herbal elixer in a ritualistic way. Feel your hurries leave you, feel your soul’s gentle soft landing in the luscious green, that colour, that instantly calms, and exhilarates, and creates spaces for imagination…
A whole century, this drink was forbidden in the Netherlands (from 1904 till 2004!). Vincent van Gogh would have cut off his ear due to this drink, it would have made him mad, or so the stories go, created by the wineries, that sought to win back the market after a year of bad harvest. The drink was highly popular in France. Arthur Rimbaud, poet, loved the drink, and so did Edgar Allen Poe, and many many others. During the ‘Fin de Siecle’, artists and writers used to gather at the ‘l’heure verte’ (the “green hour”, at four o’clock in the afternoon) in the grand café’s in the boulevards to talk about culture, art and other interesting things, and… to live the bohemian artist life! Dandy’s and all sorts of interesting folk had a great time because the Green Fairy, that popped out of the bottle, was of course their Green Muse… She made sure, that for her drinkers, colours came alive, musical notes started dancing, and athmospheres became filled with magic. And yes! It contains a bitter herb… anything that works on the entheogene level will taste bitter, or so they say….wormwood is not to be toyed with….
Also within the gothic scene, this drink is very popular. There is a lot of mistery around the recipy, but considering the bitter taste of wormwood, one will always search for sweet tasting herbs to make it properly bittersweet…. A taste wellknown to goths… Anis would be the first herb to think of. And the ‘louche’, the colouring of the drink whilst it is mixed with water from the fountain, contains the well known mist, smoke curtains, and spectres that will carry the well inclined observant to higher spheres! Dear people, let those fairies surprise you, open up tot creative and magic thoughts, that will enlighten the festival to even better levels!
