The Groggy Dogs is a pirate band that fuses Punk, Metal and Ska with sea shanties and traditional Celtic melodies, achieving a forceful and fun sound that invites you to dance and party with a few grog jugs.
An unknown plague was seeping the whole world and The Cap’n, marooned in Seville, seeing that his supplies were diminishing, decided to embark on a new adventure in search of ports to plunder. He knew his guitar and his grog-worn voice wouldn't be enough to navigate through the roaring seas and winds, so he united the crew. The Voodoo Witch and her magical fiddle melodies, The Cook who with his secret recipes cooks charming bass lines, the Buccaneer who with the force of his accordion makes the looting to be remembered and The Deadman who with the rhythm of his Drums uphold the morale of the crew and makes you vibrate to the bone.
The The Groggy Dogs idea was born in April 2020, a month after the confinement due to the Covid-19 crisis. Mauro (The Cap’n, Vocals and Guitar) after having gone through several Celtic music projects wanted to continue with the idea of taking traditional Celtic melodies and giving them a more hooligan and forceful sound. Being a huge fan of traditional sea songs, he thought it would be a good idea to take some of those old songs and add them to the mix of Punk Metal and Ska. That's when Fátima Caballero (The Voodoo Witch, Violin), Carlos Ghirlanda (The Cook, Bass), Seba Santa Cruz (The Buccaneer, Accordion) and Lucas Hidalgo (The Deadman, Drums) join the crew.
Grog o'Clock is the first album by The Groggy Dogs and was released on April 9th, 2021. The album was recorded in mid-2020 and contains 8 loaded cuts of Punk, Metal, Ska, Traditional Celtic melodies and old sea shanties. A perfect combination for partying, dancing and emptying the rum cellar. The singles for this album were "All For Me Grog", "Drunken Sailor", "The Coast of High Barbary" and this last one "Ten Thousand Miles Away”.
After a year of sailing and looting, the pirate quintet decides to jump on board again with “Still Groggin '”, their second full-length album that contains 8 tracks or “recipes” for a good night out. In this one, The Groggy Dogs crew continues to show that power, partying and drinking liters and liters of rum are the perfect cocktail for a good night of looting. The main cocktails for this release were "Old Maui", "The Dreadnought" and "Leave Her Johnny”.
