H.C. Mills

H.C. Mills is a Dutch author, who dabbles in acting and singing in musicals, and even (play)writing them. He used to teach physics and chemistry, and once represented his country in the 2008 International Biology Olympiad, but please don’t hold that against him.

As a physics nerd, H.C. Mills naturally gravitates to hard magic systems and intricate worldbuilding, but he also enjoys writing comedy and romantic subplots. An avid reader himself, he’s fallen in love with the up-and-coming LitRPG genre; a genre of books that for a large part either take place in videogames or—as he personally prefers it—in worlds that follow game-like rules, including things like allowing characters to gain Experience, Level Up, or even pick a Class.

His first published work—a completed six-book series titled ‘The Whispering Crystals’—is one such story. It is the tale of a young woman who gets sucked into a portal, along with the entire Comic-Con she’s working at. Then, in order to survive the deadly series of Trials she’s faced with, she has to increase her Stats like Strength and Agility, gain Skills, and make friends, while also trying to figure out who brought them there in the first place, and why.

Like most authors worth their salt, H.C. is a true sadist who takes pleasure in the mental anguish of his imaginary friends/brainchildren—or better yet, in making them cause their own suffering. He refuses to give them anything for free, but will usually leave a window cracked open for them somewhere, to escape whatever peril he plunges them in.

That said, he’s really quite friendly in person, and rarely bites unprovoked, so please do stop by to make a chat if you spot him at his table in the book market, or wandering around the terrain.
